SCHAUMBURG - Despite her press conference, 8th congressional district candidate Manju Goel has been unable to stop the seemingly endless string of bad news and questions being raised about he campaign operations and finances.
On Wednesday the Daily Herald rescinded its endorsement of Goel citing the campaign's "sleazy" (DH's word) attempts to confuse voters with a fake website and social media accounts made to look like her opponent Larry Kaifesh's.
The newspaper's withdrawal is the second in two days, following former presidential candidate Herman Cain demanding his name be disassociated with the campaign Tuesday.
Still, the Goel campaign used the Daily Herald's and others' endorsements in the reportedly 20+ mail pieces they've sent to Republican voters' mailboxes in the 8th congressional district.
As of Wednesday, the Goel campaign reported to the FEC that it has $130,305.82 on hand, having spent $98,183.48 through February 23. However, there is no indication how much they've spent on campaign activities since then and the amounts did not include the cost of the campaign's mailings.
And now there are questions about possible resume inflation by Goel. In a press release, Goel's opponent Larry Kaifesh writes:
"Manju Goel worked as a data entry staffer and receptionist in two medical clinics. Her online resume hows that she has not worked in either office since 2012. Since entering the 8th District Congressional race, Goel has widely claimed to be a healthcare consultant, but cannot provide the names of any clients or entities that she has ‘consulted’ for. Goel also claims to have certification as a ‘Six Sigma Green Belt.’ However, no proof has been provided of such certification, which is designated primarily for manufacturing processes."
According to news reports, Manju Goel received $10,000 in unemployment benefits in 2012 from the State of Illinois, raising concerns as to whether she is taking unemployment benefits while employed, or if the consulting business of which she boasts is simply a ruse.
Wednesday, former 8th CD Congressman Joe Walsh re-affirmed his support for Goel's candidacy while a Super PAC took down the mock Kaifesh website after Goel called on them to do so.
