According to a new Liberty Principles PAC survey, conservative Republican challenger Peter Breen (photo right) has opened up a lead on 12-year incumbent Republican State Rep. Sandy Pihos as the 48th House District Primary enters the final weekend.
Over the course of the last 7 weeks, Breen has steadily risen in the polls as voters in the district have gotten to know him and to evaluate him in comparison to Pihos.
Commissioned by Liberty Principles PAC, the survey was conducted by the Florida-based polling firm of Fabrizio Lee (www.fabriziolee.com). It was taken March 11-12, and was a sample of 300 likely GOP primary voters. It has a margin of error of +/- 5.7%. The results:
- Breen 42
- Pihos 35
Proft, who is Chairman of Liberty Principles PAC told Illinois Review: "When I first surveyed this race on January 21-22, Pihos led 42-14. When I next surveyed the race on March 2-3, Pihos led 40-34. Now Breen has opened up a lead outside the margin of error."
According to Proft, "as GOP primary voters in the 48th have familiarized themselves with the respective records of the two candidates, they have increasing made the decision that: (1) Sandy Pihos has not provided the reform leadership they desire; and, (2) 12-years is enough of a probationary period to evaluate her performance."
Additionally, Proft noted that:
+ Breen has an intensity advantage among “definite” voters by 9.
+ Among voters who have heard of both candidates (76% of the sample), Breen leads by 15.
+ Among voters who have an opinion of both candidates, Breen leads by 17
+ Breen leads among GOP primary voters who have voted in 3 of the last 3 GOP primaries by 11.
The election is next Tuesday, March 18.
