CHICAGO - Despite representing a party platform that promotes the sanctity of life from conception to natural death, U.S. Senator Mark Kirk is adamant that no social conservative can win statewide in Illinois, especially one that's pro-life. He openly shared that opinion at the Illinois Republican Party Unity Luncheon last Wednesday and again Sunday morning on Fox News Chicago.
Kirk told Illinois Republican Party chairman Jack Dorgan during a public interview Wednesday that Rauner has a much better chance to win in November because "Rauner is a fiscal conservative and a social moderate ... He's pro-choice making him more attractive to voters in the suburbs."
Although Platform Republicans are discouraged from discussing social issues during their campaigns, in an interview with Fox Senator Kirk re-interated the need to emphasize moderate positions on social issues leading up to November's General Election. See video below.
