CHICAGO - U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin is demanding action be taken against Russia for its military invasion of the country of Ukraine. However, he doesn’t want to send troops. Instead, he wants to use economic sanctions and cancel the U.S. participation in the G8 conference. He admits, however, that his options may not have an effect.
“Remember, he just finished the Sochi Olympics, trying to convince the world that Russia was this new, civilized nation-and he destroyed it in the Crimea within hours,” Durbin said. “We have to let him know that the Russians aren’t going to benefit from (the) Sochi Olympics or this new image that they’re trying to project when they act like the thugs that we’ve seen in the past.”
