Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is encouraging calls from left-wing immigrant-rights groups pressuring the Obama administration to halt al deportations of illegal aliens.
Durbin told reporters Wednesday that he has been urging Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and to reduce the number of deportations of individuals who are in the country illegally.
The increased number of deportations under Obama is a sore spot between the White House and progressive groups who politically organize people who are in the country illegally. The administration is poised to mark 2 million deportations under Obama sometime this spring.
Janet Murguia, president of the extreme left-wing National Council of La Raza (NCLR) called Obama the “deporter-in-chief” in her gala speech Tuesday. Illinois Congressman Luis Gutierrez continued on that theme on the House floor Wednesday, when he posed a “quiz” meant to make the case that Obama has deported and detained more immigrants than his two predecessors, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
