"It is clear that over the last eight weeks, Manju Goel's campaign has had a singular focus, to smear the good name of Colonel Larry Kaifesh, a decorated war hero," said Del Mar. "Last Thursday, I gave a deadline to Ms. Goel's campaign to take down the fake website and social media accounts that have been used to manipulate Republican voters in the 8th District. They chose to ignore that request and now I have a far more serious one."
Del Mar cited media reports about the Indian Americans for Freedom SuperPAC (the main source of support for Manju for Congress and housed at the same location as her campaign headquarters), which has operated a fake website, as well as Twitter and Facebook accounts, giving the appearance that they are the official accounts of Kaifesh for Congress. The site appears to harvest email addresses from unsuspecting visitors, and alleges that Kaifesh is a racist and a resident of Virginia. Both of which are false.
"Ms. Goel's campaign has had very serious complaints filed against it with the Federal Election Commission," added Del Mar. "That, combined with the fact that she has no connection to the 8th District and severely lacks Republican credentials, makes me seriously question the purpose of her candidacy. She should do the honorable thing and withdraw."
