Congressman Randy Hultgren, former Congressman Don Manzullo, State Senator Karen McConnaughay, Ben Anderson of LostandFound and Laila Mickelwait of Exodus Cry joined in calling for an end to the injustices of modern day slavery, known as human trafficking.
“It is time for the broader community to coalesce and plant a stake in the ground against this horrible industry,” said Brian Kelly, co-founder and past President of Patriots United. “We cannot allow this to go unaddressed on our watch.”
The face of human trafficking was clearly illustrated as Ms. Mickelwait flashed actual mug shots of women who had been arrested multiple times for prostitution, clearly depicting their declining health. Her 40 minute talk on the subject had the audience riveted as she showed the detrimental effects of pornography and explicit violent acts within video games on a viewer’s brain chemistry, effects that have been proven to be as addictive as heroin.
A call to action was declared by President Joe Edwards that Patriots United would lead the creation of a joint task force of community organizations, law enforcement, legislators and clergy to effect positive change to end human trafficking in this area.
“Our organization desires to link experts across multiple spheres of influence and jurisdictions to assure we keep our women and children safe. We cannot allow this to continue on our watch,” Edwards said.
