According to reports, the Illinois Education Association (IEA) will announce its support for State Senator Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale) Friday. The announcement is likely to be accompanied by a substantial check that could add fuel to the already fiery four-way battle going on between Chicago businessman Bruce Rauner, Senator Dillard, State Senator Bill Brady and State Treasurer Dan Rutherford.
The IEA, which represents public school teachers outside Chicago, endorsed Dillard in 2010 and gave him a check for $250,000 that year.
The union's legislative platform promotes a progressive tax system, opposes school choice, and encourages regulations on home schooling. All these and several other IEA positions collide with the Republican platform. For example:
