In response to Illinois Review reporting (HERE) that GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner hid hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign expenditures behind a third-party payroll company, the campaign put out a statement today saying:
We have filed our campaign finance disclosure reports in the same manner for four quarters, and the State Board has accepted those filings without issue. We are confident that we have complied with the Campaign Finance Act.
That said, the Board has now requested that we break out the salaries. We are honoring that request. We have no problem providing further detail regarding our expenditures, and we will provide that detail shortly.
Interestingly, Rauner distributed the statement to the liberal media only; ignoring conservative news outlets. A trend which has led to speculation that Rauner may be growing increasingly hostile toward the base of the GOP.
