GOP gubernatorial hopeful Bruce Rauner has been taking a beating from the media, which is frustrated by his lack of press availability (HERE) and his limited exposure in public forums and debates. In turn, the campaign seems increasingly perturbed by repeated questions about his possible use of cash and clout to secure his daughters acceptance into a prestigious high school.
Unfortunately for the Rauner camp, video from two of the candidate's interviews on the subject may keep the story going for some time.
On June 5, 2013, Rauner did an interview with Carol Marin on WTTW. When asked about whether he called and spoke with Arne Duncan about getting his daughter into Peyton Prep School, Rauner unequivocally said "no". (see video below - 7:00 minute mark)
However, in a recent interview with CBS Chicago's Jay Levine (below), Rauner defends his call to Duncan on behalf of his daughter.
As reported yesterday, U.S. Senator Mark Kirk's top aide and press spokesman, Lance Trover, is joining the Rauner campaign. It would seem to be in the nick of time.
