SCHAUMBURG, IL – Republican candidate for 8th CD Larry Kaifesh pointed to failed economic policies supported by incumbent Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth for the United States falling to 12th place in the 2014 Index of Economic Freedom Report just released.
“America used to be the beacon of economic freedom for our global citizens,” said Kaifesh. “However, due to the mismanagement of our economy by the current Administration and many in Congress, we now sit behind Mauritius and Estonia – hardly the epitome of economic freedom, at least in the minds of working people in Illinois.”
The 2014 Index highlights the fall of the United States out of the top ten countries, giving it a designation of “Mostly Free.” America’s rapid drop is largely due to the federal government’s promotion of policies that are viewed as restrictive on small businesses and economic growth. This year’s leader in economic freedom is Hong Kong, a Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. The top three are rounded out by Singapore and Australia. The United States is followed in 13th place by Bahrain, a country that has been cited for its human and women’s rights abuses.
“Unfortunately, our current Representative in Congress does not seem to understand the urgency of our economic situation in this country,” added Kaifesh. “Tammy Duckworth has chosen to pursue policies in Washington that take away from our quality of life, rather than improve it.”
Kaifesh, a military veteran, is running in the March 18th primary to be the Republican nominee to challenge Democrat Duckworth in November.
