SPRINGFIELD, IL - Liberal Democrat State Sen. Ira Silverstein has introduced legislation that would make it illegal for Illinois citizens to smoke in a car while any child (even their own) is present.
Silverstein, who has a history of pushing similar, big government rules and regulations makes the overused arguement that the legislation is aimed at "protecting children."
If the bill passes, anyone who violates the measure would face a $100 fine. It would apply to any motorist caught smoking in a vehicle with a person under age 18.
Last year, Springfield politicans passed a resolution that discouraged people from driving and smoking with "children" in the car, but the measure didn't ban the practice.
