GALENA - Galena Republican Andy Blankenbaker wants to represent the 17th CD on IL GOP's State Central Committee. Blankenbaker has been active in Jo Daviess County Republicans since he was a Young Republican twelve years ago. Since then, he's served two terms as chairman of the Jo Daviess County GOP and is the former northern region vice-chairman of the Illinois Republican County Chairmen's Association.
On Illinois Democrats March 18, 2014 primary ballot, party faithful will choose their Democratic Party's State Central committeemen and committeewomen. Rather than put their SCC committeemen and women on primary ballot, Illinois Republicans elect county and township chairmen and - outside Cook County - party precinct committeemen.
The local township and county party officials then pick who they want to represent them on the State Central Committee. That election takes place a month after the General Primary. This year, IL GOP State Central Committeemen and women will be chosen on April 18.
Blankenbaker's four immediate political goals are:
- Electing Bobby Schilling as the 17th CD's next Congressman
- Winning back the Governor's Mansion
- Increasing the Republican presence in Springfield
- Making the Republican Party stronger in Illinois
Blankenbaker has gathered endorsements from Republican notables, including former Congressman Don Manzullo, State Senators Kirk Dillard, Tim Bivins, Dave Syverson as well as county chairmen and local county officials.
The current 17th CD State Central Committeeman is Judy Dudek of Canton, Illinois.
