UPDATE x1: The Illinois Republican Party has put out a fact-check press release about the Frerichs gaff.
According to the ILGOP, along with the lie in his video, Frerichs:
- Makes over $10,000 more per year as a State Senator than when he was first elected. (Source: http://ledger.illinoiscomptroller.com/)
- Voted twice to raise his own pay and that of every other legislator and Constitutional Officer, including the Governor. (Source: ILGA.gov, 95th General Assembly, SB241 5/31/2007, ILGA.gov, 95th General Assembly, SB1102 5/31/2008)
Rich Miller at Capitol Fax (HERE) caught Democrat State Treasurer candidate Sen. Michael Frerichs lying...on his own campaign announcement video! The Democrat state senator claimed in the video that he had “led by example” by “ending free lifetime healthcare for legislators.”
As Miller notes, the mistake is particulary disturbing given the fact that Frerichs has had a year to prepare for this rollout. The embarassment may be leaving many Democrats - and voters - wondering if Frerichs is ready for statewide office.
