UPDATE x1: Adam Robinson, Chairman of the Chicago GOP, contacted Illinois Review to clarify that he as Chicago GOP chairman will be personally endorsing Treasurer Rutherford. The Chicago GOP will not hold an endorsement session any candidate for the March 18th Primary.
"I voted for Treasurer Rutherford during the Cook County GOP endorsement vote on behalf of the 48th Ward," Robinson said, :and that will be the announcement we make on Sunday."
CHICAGO - This Sunday, GOP gubernatorial candidate Dan Rutherford will be holding a special press conference to announce his endorsement by the Chicago Republican Party, which is chaired by Adam Robinson, 48th Ward Committeeman, and Chris Cleveland.
The Chicago GOP made news last month when they filed petitions for 18 candidates in 16 districts for the state legislature. The candidates were the result of an "American Idol"-style vetting process, which was part of the organization's efforts to recruit, train, and get signatures for Republican candidates across the city.
Most recently, the Chicago GOP successfully challenged the petitions of Republican Terrance Groggin, who was running to challenge Democrat House Speaker Mike Madigan. It was widely believed that Goggin's was a Madigan plant, and questions about his petition signatures forced him to withdraw as a candidate.
