The first GOP gubernatorial forum of 2014 took place last night at the Plainfield Central High School, with three of the four GOP candidates taking questions and debating one another in front of several hundred voters.
Illinois Review held a straw poll following the forum. There were 232 votes cast. The results (votes received and percent of the total vote) were as follows:
Brady, Dillard and Rutherford participated in-person. Bruce Rauner declined the invitation, although sources tell Illinois Review his campaign offered to send a surrogate to read a prepared statement. The offer was declined and an empty chair was on the stage to represent Rauner.
Dan Proft of WLS 890AM moderated the forum, which was hosted by the Will County Tea Party Alliance, and co-sponsored by the Will County Republican Organization, Homer Township GOP Organization, New Lenox Township GOP Organization, DuPage Township GOP Organization, Wheatland Township GOP Organization, Lockport Township GOP Organization, Plainfield Township GOP Organization, Illinois Family Acton, Joliet Tea Party, Homer /Lockport Tea Party, Dupage Tea Party, Lemont Tea Party, Conservative Committeeman Project, the United Republican Fund, and the URF Womens Network.
