NAPERVILLE - In its ongoing fight against the proposed progressive income tax, Americans for Prosperity- Illinois is launching a new online petition at www.NoProgressiveTax.com to help Illinoisans voice their opposition to the progressive income tax.
“The progressive income tax is yet another attempt by Springfield Democrats to extract more money from Illinoisans’ wallets and will accelerate the exodus of families and jobs from our state,” said AFP Illinois State Director David From. “This petition is our latest effort to make legislators listen to the vast majority of Illinoisans who do not want the higher taxes and unemployment this proposal will bring to the Land of Lincoln.”
The petition found at www.NoProgressiveTax.com is the latest in AFP- Illinois’ year-long effort to oppose the progressive income tax. The organization is currently running online ads in six districts represented by House Democrats as well as undertaking extensive grassroots efforts including over a dozen town hall meetings across the state.
The effort to oppose the progressive income tax is particularly important given the dire consequences this policy would have on Illinois’ already hurting taxpayers and struggling economy. Just yesterday, the Tax Foundation joined members of the General Assembly to release a report showing that implementation of proposed progressive rates would drop Illinois’ Business Tax Climate rating from an already poor 31st in the nation to a dismal 44th, driving away employers and jobs.
“Our organization will continue to stand with taxpayers and employers to fight this disastrous proposal until it is defeated,” continued From. “Our legislators need to focus on encouraging job growth and investment in Illinois so families and business can make Illinois home. Instead, they are trying to take even more of their hard-earned money, again.”
