CHICAGO - Not only did Chicago investor Bruce Rauner make a call in 2009 to then-Chicago Public Schools CEO Arne Duncan to get Rauner's daughter admitted into the elite Walter Payton College Prep School, the 2014 Republican gubernatorial primary candidate also wrote a check to Payton Prep a year and a half later for $250,000.
Rauner’s gift was the largest the Payton not-for-profit foundation had received up to that point. It amounts to nearly 30 percent of all the money the group has gotten during its first five years, according to records the Rauner and Payton charities filed with the state, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting Monday.
Saturday, Rauner's staff had nothing to say about the topic to the Sun-Times. Two weeks ago, Rauner’s campaign spokesman Mike Schrimpf said Rauner’s daughter “was admitted off the principal’s list, the same way many students have been admitted.”
