PEORIA - For several months, Republican National Committee Secretary Demetra DeMonte has been traveling throughout the nation, teaching county chairman how to buildup their GOP organizations. Last weekend, she took the workshop from Illinois, far northwest to Anchorage, Alaska.
Alaska's State Chairman Peter Goldberg and his wife Marty worked with Alaska's National Committeewoman Debbie Joslin and Committeeman Ralph Seekins to get county chairmen in for the training, DeMonte reports. She also appeared on radio and television.
DeMonte says she enjoyed the day she spent sightseeing Alaska before the workshop, especially visiting an ice cave outside of Anchorage.
"There I was, a former Chicago girl, now living amongst the cornfields of Illinois," she said. "We drove an hour and a half out of Anchorage into the middle of nowhere and then drove some more. Then we hiked a couple of miles during a mild snow storm, to go into an ice cave."
"I mentioned the trip to the folks at the workshop and they were shocked I did it," she said.
DeMonte has provided training for county organizations in New Hampshire, Vermont, Iowa, Arizona, Missouri (at the Midwest Republican Leadership Conference), and Alaska. In the near future, she'll be training chairmen in West Virginia, Montana and Indiana.
