Establishment GOP crybabies in Congress are whining that the principled tough love stand of the Tea Party Republicans is hurting the GOP brand name because the public will blame the GOP for the government shutdown. Thanks to overwhelming media bias for the Democrats, yes the public might do that for a short time according to some polls and they also did that in 1995 after the last government shutdown when Bill Clinton was president.
But what the crybabies always forget about 1995 is that the GOP paid almost no price for taking an unpopular stand in the polls. In the next election in 1996 when President Clinton defeated a weak campaign by Sen. Bob Dole, the House Republicans retained a large majority in the House and lost a net of only two seats which was hardly a sign of punishment by the public.
The establishment GOP always seems to forget also that the only reason they now have a mjority in the House is because of the flood of Tea Party candidates who won in 2010 and won again in 2012 and will win again in 2014. If the establishment GOP elders persist in waging a party civil war against the principled stands of younger Tea Party members, then the GOP brand will be hurt and the GOP majority in the House could be hurt and the chances of winning a GOP Senate majority could be reduced.
