SPRINGFIELD - GoPride.com, a website for Illinois' gay community, is reporting that U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, Governor Pat Quinn, Lt.Gov Sheila Simon and Comptroller Judy Baar-Topinka will head up next Tuesday's march in support of changing to definition of marriage in Illinois to include same-sex relationships. The organizers say they are expecting up to 5,000 people to participate.
The next day, Illinoisans urging state lawmakers to keep the definition of marriage as it currently is in state law will meet for a Lobby Day beginning at 10:00 am. Event organizers at Illinois Family Institute are still gathering their list of politicians to speak. So far GOP gubernatorial candidates Senators Kirk Dillard and Bill Brady and State Representatives Tom Morrison and Jeanne Ives will be participating.
Last February, several thousand marriage supporters merged on the Capitol shortly after the Illinois Senate passed same sex marriage legalization on Valentine's Day.
