NEW LENOX - Will County Board Commissioner Margo McDermed announced Thursday that she will run for retiring State Rep. Renee Kosel's 37th District seat. Kosel, who first took office in 1997, announced her plans to not seek re-election in 2014.
"I am running for the State Representative seat to be vacated when Renee Kosel retires at the end of her current term," McDermed said in a statement posted online. "The reason I am running is to take my life experience as a manager and negotiator for 30 years in the business world and apply it to break the dysfunction in Springfield. We need to get the state working again so jobs will start flowing into Illinois and not out."
McDermed studied law at DePaul University and worked for Amoco/BP. She served as Frankfort Township clerk, and is married to Ed Ronkowski, chairman of Will County Republicans.
