Due to the partial government shut down, Halloween 2013 has been cancelled at Weyermuller home in Wilmette, Illinois, Republican jokester Mark Weyermuller says. This year's pumpkin display is already set up, but like the government shutdown, people are asked not to look at it. In addition, "security" had been added to enforce the shut down.
Traditionallly, the Weyermuller home features elaborate Halloween displays with a political theme. Last year the display included twenty life-sized figures with rubber masks portraying President Obama, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Ex -Governor Rod Blagojevich, Mitt Romney, Clint Eastwood, and Charlie Sheen.
If the real U.S. government shutdown ends, Weyermuller says he may reconsider cancelling Halloween to include displaying the usual political characters, but adding Ted Cruz, Willie from Duck Dynasty, Michael Madigan from Illinois politics, Lois Lerner from the IRS, Tom Hanks as Captain Phillips, and Walter White from the Breaking Bad series.
Weyermuller hasn't yet decided if Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke will make the cut, but is sure neither Anthony Weiner nor any hot dog costumes will be included. "The display is G-rated," he said.
Just kidding, though, Weyermuller says. "Halloween is on this year, shut down or not, there will be candy for all, and one lucky trick-or-treater may get a free copy of the Healthcare bill ((2000 pages) ) to boot."
