PLAINFIELD – State Rep. Tom Cross (R-Plainfield) is moving from county to county, gathering prominent Republicans to support his bid for State Treasurer. Two weeks ago, Tazewell County's RNC Committeewoman Demetra DeMonte endorsed him. Last week, he announced a team in Kendall County. Today he announced a group of conservatives and Will County Tea Party leaders that will make up his Will County Leadership team.
Cross’ Will County Leadership Team includes Will County Treasurer Steve Weber, Will County Sheriff Paul Kaupas, Will County Board Republican Caucus Chairman Jim Moustis, and Will County Board Members Steve Balich, Liz Collins, Ragan Freitag, Mike Fricilone, Lee Ann Goodson, Don Gould, Suzanne Hart, David Izzo, Charles "Chuck" Maher, Margo McDermed*, Judy Ogalla and Tom Weigel.
Will County Republican and Tea Party activists won 28 local elections in 2013, and are expected to show more election muscle in 2014. Cross is being challenged by fellow Republican Bob Grogan, DuPage County's auditor, who espouses conservative social values and professional qualifications to be state treasurer.
But for Will County Treasurer Steve Weber, Cross is his pick in 2014. “Tom Cross has the ability and understanding to help solve the current fiscal problems being faced by Illinois. Tom has always been a fiscal watchdog and a friend to taxpayers in Will County and throughout the state,” said Weber.
“The path to reform begins with an honestly balanced budget," said Cross in response to the team's endorsement. "As Treasurer, on day one I will work to require the Governor and legislature to enact an honestly balanced budget. Taxpayers deserve no less.”
