CHAMPAIGN – Friday, five state lawmakers and the Champaign County GOP Chairman endorsed Tom Cross in his GOP primary bid for State Treasurer. Senators Jason Barickman, Chapin Rose and Dale Righter joined with Representatives Adam Brown and Bill Mitchell and Champaign County Republican Chairman Habeeb Habeeb announced their support for Cross over DuPage County Auditor Bob Grogan, who is also vying for the position.
“Tom Cross has bold ideas on how the Treasurer’s office can play a pivotal role in cracking down on fraud and corruption in government,” said State Senator Jason Barickman. “We need to move Illinois in a new direction and Tom Cross will bring new ideas and a fresh perspective to that effort.”
State Senator Chapin Rose said Cross’ experience as a Prosecutor will bring a new dimension to the Treasurer’s office.
“The experience Tom brings as a former prosecutor means that he will be an incredibly vigilant fiscal watchdog for taxpayers,” said Rose. “In the legislature, I have worked with Tom on key initiatives to root out fraud and waste and I look forward to continuing those efforts.”
As Treasurer, Cross promises to use the treasurer's office to require a balanced budget, including legal remedies. Cross says he will establish a Government Integrity Unit inside the Treasurer’s office, comprised of financial experts, former prosecutors and law enforcement officials who will be charged with the task of reviewing state financial documents to ensure their accuracy and protect state pension funds from corruption and fraud.
