DECATUR - Republican Mike Bell, 62, of Edinburgh announced last week he's challenging 96th House District Democrat in 2014. House Republicans Bill Mitchell of Forsyth, Adam Brown of Champaign stood with Bell during his announcement, along with House Republican Organization's co-chairman Ed Sullivan of Mundelein.
Sullivan said the 96th District - now represented by Democrat Sue Scherer - is winnable for Republicans. Republicans hold a super-minority in the Illinois House.
Bell, who is on the Edinburg School Board and co-chairman of the Project 29 committee, was a teacher for 35 years, and worked for the Department of Corrections. He says his campaign focus will be on creating more jobs in Central Illinois.
