Last week the Cook County Board of Review held information seminars in Wilmette to help lower property tax bills. The government officials holding the event called it "outreach" while some in the crowd called it "damage control." The damage being more property tax hikes, higher assessments and money-saving exceptions being removed.
Last year, a similar meeting drew only 25 people. This year's informational meeting had closer to 200, with people overflowing into hallways and adjacent rooms.
That reaction has many asking if a Cook County tax revolt is brewing. Could be. "Taxed Enough Already" is the phrase for which "TEA" Party is an acronym and was the theme Saturday in Wilmette.
