ZION - Zion's Tom Handyside wants to succeed retiring State Rep. JoAnn Osmond in representing the 61st District. Handyside, 24, and son of Scott and Jenise Handyside of Zion, is a banker that currently serves as a Zion-Benton Township High School Board Member. Recently he was appointed to the Zion Police Department Pension Fund Board, where he serves as Assistant Secretary.
“The 61st district is being heavily vacated due to jobs north of the border and skyrocketing property taxes,” said Handyside. “With my experience in business and time on the ZBTHS Board of Education and Zion PD Pension Board, I am uniquely qualified for this office. But it’s my experience and understanding of how the current economic environment impacts all businesses, small and mid-sized and of course families, that makes me the candidate of the people.”
“Tom Handyside impressed me with his ideas on confronting the issues the State of Illinois is facing,” said Gurnee Mayor, Krysti Kovarik. “Besides being uniquely qualified for the office, he represents a bright future for the GOP.”
The ILGOP primary election will take place on March 18, 2014. Tom Handyside’s website is www.tomforil61.com or on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tom-Handyside-for-State-Representative/499638820104381
