AURORA - Aurora's Beth Goncher, a 12-year legislative director for state Rep. Tim Schmitz (R-Batavia), announced this week that she's running in 2014 to succeed retiring state Rep. Kay Hatcher (R-Aurora). Goncher's boss, Rep. Schmitz, announced last week that he's also not seeking re-election in 2014.
Goncher will likely be facing former Kendall County GOP Chairman Keith Wheeler in next March's GOP primary for the 50th State House seat. Wheeler writes on his website that as result of Rep. Hatcher's decision, he has been contacted by Republicans asking him to consider running for the Illinois General Assembly.
"My family and I are strongly considering a run and would like your input as we make this important decision," he said. "It has always been our intention to do what we can where we can make a difference."
