SPRINGFIELD - Political buzz today points to three controversial $52,600 donations GOP gubernatorial candidate Kirk Dillard received this week from private sector union-affiliated political action committees:
The IUOE Local 150 is the state's operating engineers union and the Chicago Land Operators Joint Labor-Management PAC was set up in 2010 by the IUOE Local 150 President James Sweeney.
The Illinois Lunch Pail Republicans say on their website:
If we work under a union contract, chances are we are paid better than we would be without it. That means something to us. If a union helps us earn more money to support our families, paying our union a little bit is only fair. We aren’t freeloaders, and we don’t want the government forcing our union to represent freeloaders, because it will just weaken our ability to bring home those better wages.
If you think you have the right to tell any union, business, or independent organization that it has to work for nothing, stop calling yourself a Republican. Stay out of it. It’s not the government’s place.
The Illinois Lunch Pail Republicans were formed in 2012, with former Republican State Senator Dave Sullivan of Park Ridge listed as the group's treasurer. Sullivan, who was on Governor George Ryan's staff before serving in the Illinois Senate, left the General Assembly in 2005 to become a registered lobbyist. Dillard served Sullivan in the Senate.
