LAKE COUNTY - Gerald (Jerry) Dietz, 44 announced Tuesday that he would seek the Republican nomination for 62nd State Representative District, a Lake County House seat now held by Democrat Sam Yingling.
"I will fight for pension reform, property tax reform, jobs and education. These issues are the core to Illinois’ problems. All these issues are tied to one another," Dietz said in his announcement. "If we don’t fix the pension issue, we will lose the trust and credibility with all of our teachers and government workers. This will affect our schools and teachers, which directly affects us locally with our extremely high property taxes. I will lead where others in my district are failing and I will fight for everybody."
Dietz said his legislative priorities include creating good-paying jobs in the District, working on pension reform, improving the county's education, cleaning up state government, stopping pay to play politics and lowering Lake County's high property taxes.
Dietz is an attorney that represents governmental bodies with a concentrated practice in municipal law, municipal prosecution, special districts, library and fire districts. He formerly chaired the Lake County Community Development Commission and has other community service experience over the past 20 years.
