SPRINGFIELD - Saturday, State Senator Michael Frerichs (D-Champaign) was endorsed by the Illinois Democratic County Chairmen's Association (ILDCCA) as the Democratic nominee for Illinois Treasurer. The endorsement comes on the heels of others for Frerichs from the Cook County Democratic Party and "The Southern 20," which is comprised of the 20 southernmost Democratic County Chairmen.
"I'm honored to receive the endorsement of the Illinois Democratic County Chairmen's Association today and am excited about the momentum of this campaign," said Frerichs. "We all agree that the next Illinois Treasurer needs to do more to look out for working families, veterans, and small business owners. I'm ready to provide that leadership, and I thank the Chairmen for their support in my race for Treasurer."
Then the Democrats turned their aim towards Republican State Treasurer Dan Rutherford and House Minority Leader Tom Cross.
"Our current Treasurer has spent all of his time in office running for Governor, and the current Republican running for this office would have rather run for Attorney General," said ILDCA President and Monroe County Democratic Chairman, Alan Pirtle. "That's not leadership we can count on to protect our state's investments and college savings for thousands of middle class families."
Democrats, who've had control of the Governor's seat and the Illinois General Assembly since 2002, said Senator Frerichs is the only candidate prepared to restore fiscal responsibility to Illinois' finances.
"Our state is facing tremendous challenges," said Bob Peickert, DuPage County Democratic Chairman. "I know Mike has the ability and the qualifications to help the middle class families that have been left behind in this difficult economy. He's running a campaign Democrats can be proud of, and I look forward to working with Mike when he is sworn in as our next Treasurer."
