WHEATON - State Representative Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) will be featured at West Point Military Academy’s 2013 Women’s Equality Day Observation Luncheon next week. Ives, a 1987 class alumni, will speak on the topic of “Celebrating Women’s Right to Vote” on August 26, the ninety-third anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment to the US Constitution.
Ives served in the US Army after graduating from West Point with a B.A. in Economics. Her assignments included platoon leader and headquarters detachment commander for transportation units in Germany and ROTC instructor at Wheaton College.
Prior to her election to the Illinois State House, Ives served on the Wheaton City Council where her tenure was marked by conservative leadership and an unwavering commitment to the taxpayers’ bottom line.
“It is an honor to deliver the keynote address at USMA’s ‘Women’s Equality Day’ event,” states Ives. “I recognize the character and influence of the individuals who have been a part of the Long Grey Line. I look forward to a discussion on the ways in which we can best venerate the work of those who stood on the front lines for women’s equality during the suffrage movement.”
