KANE COUNTY - Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner won a straw poll at Dundee Township Republican Organization's picnic Sunday with 50 percent of the vote. Coming in second was State Senator Kirk Dillard at 41 percent. State Treasurer Dan Rutherford and State Senator Bill Brady drew single digits.
The nearly 140 picnickers heard from GOP gubernatorial candidates Rauner, Brady and Dillard. They also heard from Kevin Williams and Don Kramer - two candidates for Kane County Sheriff, Bob Grogan for Treasurer, State Representative Mike Tryon and State Representative David McSweeney.
State Treasurer and gubernatorial candidate Dan Rutherford was invited but could not attend.
Attendees were asked their preference for the 2014 GOP gubernatorial and 2016 GOP presidential races. In the straw poll, Rauner came in first, Dillard second, with Rutherford and Brady far behind.
For the 2016 Presidential race, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (Texas) edged out New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
“It was great seeing such enthusiasm from republicans. People seem tired of single party rule in Springfield and want change,” said Allen Skillicorn Precinct Committeeman Dundee 11.
