CHICAGO - U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is objecting to the new Texas' voter ID laws, and believes the Lone Star State's remapping is unfair to minorities.
The flip side of the Texas story is right here in Illinois where the majority Democrats have drawn hyper-minority district maps, which cost Republicans the congressional seats once held by Bob Dold, Bobby Schilling, and Joe Walsh.
Chicago Now's Dennis Byrne tackles the hypocrisy today, writing:
The Constitution requires that congressional districts must be "compact and contiguous" by House Speaker Michael Madigan who is in charge of Democratic-controlled redistricting, has creating maps maximize Dem control while leaving Republican voters pretty much out in the cold...
Byrne then asks a fair question: "For example, Illinois' 4th Congressional district (see map below) is designed to protect Democratic Cong. Luis Gutiérrez. Does it look compact and contiguous to you?"
(The map below is found on the Illinois State Board of Elections for the 2012 4th CD Map)
