Illinois Review is hearing that House Minority Leader Tom Cross' name is being mentioned in three different polls. According to "the buzz", the basic questions being asked are:
1. Would you vote for Tom Cross, Bob Schillerstrom or Bob Grogan for State Treasurer?
2. Would you vote for Tom Cross or Kwame Raoul for Secretary of State?
3. Would you vote for Tom Cross of Bill Foster for Congress in the 11th CD?
Word is Cross has grown restless as House Minority Leader, a position he's held since 2002 after taking over for Lee Daniels. The decade has not been a pleasant one for Republicans, who find themselves in super-minority status following the 2012 election.
As a former Kendall County state's attorney Cross was reportedly (see Battleground Polling) interested in pursuing the Attorney General slot in 2014 until Lisa Madigan announced she was running for re-election.
STATE TREASURER: Former DuPage County Board Chairman Bob Schillerstrom and DuPage County Auditor Bob Grogan are the two GOP names connected with this office, which is being vacated by Dan Rutherford who is running for Governor. Sources are saying Schillerstrom may be getting cold feet as Grogan picks up support and endorsements, which means there may be an opening for Cross in this Primary.
SECRETARY OF STATE: There are rumors that Secretary of State Jesse White may be considering retirement. Kwame Raoul's name is being talked about as the Democrat's alternative should White step down. If Jesse White - who has proved impossible for Republicans to defeat - retires, the seat would once again be competitive and Cross might consider a run.
CONGRESS: Perhaps the most interesting "buzz" is that of Cross running for Congress against Bill Foster in the 11th Congressional District. Cross' colleague State Rep. Darlene Senger (R-Naperville) has already announced for the office, as has Grundy County Board Member Chris Balkema and radio personality Ian Bayne. But Senger has struggled to raise money and has been rumored to be on the Lieutenant Governor short list for more than one GOP gubernatorial candidate. Should Senger re-direct to LG, it could leave an opening for Cross to step in.
