UPDATE x1: Former Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh will be rallying conservatives and Tea Party members outside the Chicago offices of the IRS at 230 S. Dearborn St. on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at 12 noon. Walsh joins thousands of Americans across the country rallying against the abuse of power by the IRS that has been revealed in the last week.
“We’re continuing to read about outrageous behavior by the IRS directed almost exclusively against conservative, religious, and Tea Party groups,” Walsh said. “This is clearly an effort to intimidate groups who hold political views opposed to the president. The effect is truly chilling.”
Tea Party groups around the nation have designated Tuesday, May 21, 2013, as a day to rally against the IRS at local offices.
“This breach of trust by one of the government’s most powerful agencies really calls into question whether it can continue to function,” Walsh said. “If the IRS can’t be trusted to treat Americans fairly — regardless of their political views — then the time has come to abolish the IRS.”
