WILL COUNTY - Monday night, the Will County Legislative Committee voted 5 to 1 in favor of the concealed carry resolution proposed by Commissioner Steve Balich and written by Commsr. Don Moran. An amendment proposed by Steve Balich which came from Illinois House Bill 1155 (amendment 27) also passed 5 to 1.
"When it comes to our Constitutional right to bear arms, there are no party lines," said Balich in a statement. "The Founding Fathers said God gives us the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The Second Amendment was the means by which they gave us to protect these rights.
Democrat board member Reed Bible was the sole negative vote on the resolution. Committee votes in the affirmative were (R) Liz Collins, (D) Don Moran, (D) Bob Howard, (R) Steve Balich. During the public comment period, citizens said that as elected officials the board members took an oath to defend the Constitution not to help rip it apart.
"The members of the Will County Legislative Committee understand the importance of standing for the Constitutional rights of the people in Will County," Balich said.
