Congress has passed and sent to President Obama a bill that will force the Postal Service to continue delivery of mail on Saturdays in spite of the fact that the USPS wants to shut down the service due to increasingly huge operating losses. This is one more example of how foolish members in both parties can be when they seem to think they have the power to ignore or repeal basic laws of economics.
Apparently members think the empty gesture of voting to postpone the inevitable financial collapse of USPS will be a popular vote with constituents who continue to want Saturday delivery. We will see how popular this vote will be when the USPS has to stop delivery of mail on certain weekdays in order to save the money it would have saved by stopping Saturday delivery. The sad fact is that members of Congress waste money because they want to waste money and they want to because they think the waste is popular with constituents who are just as foolish as their representatives when it comes to thinking they can don't have to pay the true cost of services they want.
