A record crowd of New Trier Republicans gathered last Friday at the Winnetka Community House for the annual New Trier Republican Organization Corn Beef & Cabbage St. Patrick’s Day Party.
While enjoying good food and fellowship, the group heard remarks from elected officials State Treasurer Dan Rutherford, Congressman Robert Dold, Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak, and prospective candidate for Governor, Bruce Rauner.
The keynote speaker was Real Clear Politics columnist and Wilmette resident Heather Wilhelm. Heather's written commentary has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Examiner, and the National Review Online, and she is a frequent guest on national talk radio shows including the Dennis Miller Show, the Guy Benson Show, and various Chicago-based programs. Heather also currently serves as a senior fellow at the Illinois Policy Institute.
"We doubled our attendance from previous years" said New Trier GOP Committeeman Bill Cadigan. "The popularity of this event shows that the results of the 2012 election have not done anything to dampen the passions of the NTRO activists and volunteers that form one of the most vibrant and effective local Republican organizations in the State of Illinois" Cadigan added. Cadigan used his closing remarks to outline a vision for a GOP 2014 ticket capable of motivating the party faithful while appealing to the independent voters required to win local and statewide races in Illinois.
