SPRINGFIELD - State Representative David Reis (R-Effingham) assured marriage activists that he was committed to preserving the definition of traditional marriage as being between one man and one woman Wednesday in front of the State Capitol. The event, organized by Illinois Family Institute, drew several hundred that braved chilly temperatures outside the Capitol before they relayed their concerns to members of the State House. [UPDATE: David E. Smith of IFI estimates the crowd grew to nearer to "several thousand."]
Last week,the Illinois Senate passed legislation to redefine marriage to include couples of the same sex.
