ELMWOOD PARK - If you've been wondering what happened to House GOP's Assistant Leader Skip Saviano after House Speaker Mike Madigan decided Saviano's newly-drawn House district would be better represented by a Democrat, he's on the ballot again.
Saviano, who, Greg Hinz wrote, was a painful reminder of the longtime tie between the late Rosemont mayor Don Stephens and Speaker Madigan, ran the House Republicans' campaign organization for years as Minority Leader Tom Cross' lieutenant. But last November, Madigan put efforts behind Democratic challenger Kathleen Willis, who soundly ousted Saviano.
But Madigan didn't destroy Saviano. Now he's running for Elmwood Park village president as part of the "People's Choice" slate, hoping to regain political power, especially in the contract-lucrative area surrounding O'Hare Airport. Apparently, Illinois' bi-partisan Combine continues to flourish while the state's unknowing taxpayers pay the bill.
