The tax exempt, Secular Coalition for America is expressing its strong disappointment that the proposed Obamacare rules issued by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) don't remove further freedoms from Christian and other, non-secular faith groups.
In February 2012, HHS announced final rules adopting an exemption to contraception requirements using a new definition of “religious employer.” On behalf of their belief system, the Secular Coalition submitted public comments on both the new definition and opposing any attempts to offer conscience protections to any faith entities.
Armed with preferential tax status, the Secular Coalition's executive Director Edwina Rogers complained that any accommodation to religious groups constitutes an unshared "religious freedom" that provides them "preferential treatment."
