Some but not all radical gay leaders maintain that any organization, employer, or church that disapproves of the gay lifestyle is narrow-minded and wants to discriminate unfairly against the alleged "civil rights" of gays. But people who object to the gay lifestyle also have the right to disapprove whether they do so for reasons of religious belief or any other reason. Now the Boy Scouts of America are considering a policy change that would leave it up to local troops to decide if they will admit gay boys or permit adult gay scoutmasters.
So much for the Scout oath about keeping morally straight. Apart from moral considerations, national scout leaders will be reckless and irresponnsible if they are ready to abandon their responsiblility to protect the scouts from potential harm.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, white male homosexuals continue to be the highest risk group for infection by the HIV virus that leads to AIDS. In 2010, there was 29,800 new cases of AIDS reported or an increase of 12 percent over 2008. AIDS is not going down in America, it is still increasing with a total of more than 300,000 deaths so far. At most, gays compose about 4 percent of the male population in the U.S. but account for 78 percent of new HIV infections by transmission. Radicals can argue all they want that these issues are not related but common sense shows that they are. If national scout leaders allow local troops to promote gay activity, they are putting scouts in harm's way and at greater risk for no good reason.
