The Chicago region has experienced a massive decline in private
investment in research and development, according to a new report by the
Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning.
Once one of the nation's top R&D manufacturing centers, Chicago has taken a nosedive in the last decade — losing almost half its R&D jobs, the study says. There were just under 30,000 such jobs in 2002 and just more than 15,000 in 2011.
