LAKE VILLA - Tom Weber, Lake County Forest Preserve District Commissioner, made an unusual recommendation during a recent board meeting, when it was reported the forest preserve district had a surplus. Weber recommends the surplus be used to pay off debt or returning funds to the taxpayers.
"It was presented to the Land Preservation and Acquisition Committee that there is a surplus of $1,611,700 in the Series 2003 Debt Service fund after completing all payment obligations," Weber said via press release. The committee recommended the funds be trasferred to the Easements and Special Project Fund and the Capitol Facilities improvement Fund.
Weber disagreed.
"I have recommended to the committee and recommend to my fellow commissioners that these additional funds should only be used for the purpose of paying off Forest Preserve District Debt or this money should be abated back to the tax payers. This money should not be placed into slush funds to be spent. These are tough economic times and we need to do anything we can to help and honor the Tax Payers of Lake County."
Carol Calabresa is chair of the Land Preservation and Acquisition Committee, with Linda Pedersen as vice chair. Committee members are Bonnie Thomson Carter, Steven W. Mandel, Diana O'Kelly, Tom Weber and Terry Wilke. Weber can be reached at TWeber@LakeCountyIL.gov.
