SPRINGFIELD - Wednesday, Illinois Auditor General William Holland was arrested by Springfield police for suspected driving under influence. Five years ago, Illinois Review dubbed Holland "Illinois' own Rodney Dangerfield," because of the toughness of his job and the lack of respect for the work he does.
Illinois Times reports: Details of the arrest by Illinois State Police were not immediately available, but records at the Sangamon County circuit clerk’s office show that police cited Holland for improper lane usage in addition to arresting him for driving under the influence. Holland could not be reached for comment.
The auditor general conducts financial audits of state agencies as well as compliance reviews to ensure that agencies follow pertinent laws. The auditor general’s office also conducts performance audits to help ensure that state government is productive and efficient.
Holland has been auditor general since 1992. He has twice been appointed to ten-year terms since then, most recently in August of last year by a unanimous vote of the General Assembly.
