The new red-light surveillance company Mayor Rahm Emanuel has chosen to install additional cameras around schools and parks may be allowed to put embarrassing videos of private citizens up on YouTube.
American Traffic Solutions, the Arizona company that won the lucrative Chicago contract, boasts of having a YouTube Channel that recently topped one million views. The company says the purpose is public safety education. “We use it [YouTube] with our customers and as a company to help alert people to the dangers of speeding and red-light running,” company spokesman Charles Territo said Friday.
Interestingly, Michael Alvarez, an elected member of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, is a registered lobbyist for American Traffic Solutions, and recently contributed $10,000 to Emanuel, who is counting on up to $30 million in fines this year from the speed cameras, which means they will need to be installed quickly. ...More HERE
