If U.S. Senator Dick Durbin has his way, Illinoisans will no longer be able to avoid paying Illinois state, county and local government sales taxes by shopping online. Durbin has re-introduced his bill that will force citizens to pay - and retailers to collect - the government's share of your post-income tax spending.
About support for his bill, Durbin said, “I think the stars are starting to line up. I think our coalition is coming together even stronger than before.”
The hope is that the bill will move quickly, ahead of this year's focus on comprehensive tax reform, Sen. Durbin said. “That would suggest this is a federal tax,” he added. “This is all state and local taxes.”
