A convicted murderer from Indiana walked
out the front door of the Cook County Jail to freedom after he was
mistakenly released by Illinois authorities after a court appearance
here on an unrelated charge, authorities announced Thursday. Steven L. Robbins, was serving a
60-year sentence for murder. He walked out of Gate 5 [of the jail] and hasn’t been seen by
authorities since.
Meanwhile, lawyers for a wrongfully convicted man - Ronald Kitchen - who spent 21 years behind bars for a murder he didn’t commit are asking a federal judge to force former Mayor Richard M. Daley to testify in a lawsuit against the City of Chicago and disgraced Chicago Police Cmdr. Jon Burge. Daley was Cook County state’s attorney when prosecutors pushed for the death penalty against Kitchen.
